Green: the underappreciated hero of the color palette.

Sure, pink gets all the scrapbook glory, but green?

Green shows up, puts in the work, and does it in every vibe imaginable. We’re talking mint that says “I brunch,” kelly green that screams “I peaked in St. Patrick’s Day,” and forest green that basically is a vibe.

Want bright colors? Go neon. Want chill? Sage. It can be your background color, your focal point, your whole personality.

And if you’ve got that one weird sheet of patterned paper you keep skipping over? Yeah—this is its moment. Let it shine, baby.

Now, if you’re the kind of crafter who builds a scrapbook page by carefully curating layers, green is a dream!

Grab some green paper from your favorite company, like Echo Park or vintage Basic Grey, and start layering like your design team application depends on it.

Pop in some inch squares in different shades of green, toss a die cut leaf into the middle of the page, and call it “mixed media.” Stick an old photo on top with some letter stickers and you’ve got yourself a great layout that says, “Yes, I am holding it together. Barely.”

And listen, even if you’re not into full-on scrapbook layouts, you can still give green its due in junk journal pages, scrapbook journals, or even your perfectly constructed bullet journals. Throw it on black paper for drama, pair it with fun colors, or use an ink pad to distress the life out of your corners like you’re mad at them.

FAQ’s: Green Scrapbook Ideas

We get asked this A LOT. Like, what is the point of it? First of all, its a hobby! Its fun! Creative! Relaxing! But if we want to get more technical, the main point of scrapbooking (and junk journaling!) is to capture memories and express yourself creatively. For some, it’s all about preserving special moments and family stories; for others, it’s more like art therapy. A way to relax and play with paper, photos, and a little glue. Or as we say, we stick paper on paper. At Slowestuff, we say: do what feels fun! Yeesh!

Great question, and we get this one a lot too! Scrapbooking usually means layouts built around photos and memories, like a fancy, decorated photo album. Junk journaling? That’s pure “do what you want” energy. Think random scraps, tickets, receipts, art, no rules, no photos required. If you love structure, go scrapbook. If you love chaos (the good kind!), try junk journaling. If you want to see some examples of each, along side our discussion of it, check out our post here.

Our general theory is more is more, but we do admit that green can look less than cohesive if you just toss every shade on the page. We think the key is mixing it in with some other neutrals. So, try starting with two or three greens that have the same undertone (like mint and sage, or emerald and olive). Layer them with neutrals like think white, cream, or kraft paper tan, to break things up. If you want everything to blend, repeat the same green in your embellishments, like washi tape, stickers, or even doodles. It ties the page together, particularly if you are going for a non-seasonal kind of look. Check out the examples on this page, there is tons of amazing inspo here!

When flipping through our journals, we see a LOT of green. We use it so much, because it is just so versatile. Vintage & nature themed pages are a natural for green. You know what else is? Coffee pages! We have two posts because we love them so much, so check them out here and here. Of course, green also works for St. Patrick’s Day, birthdays, travel journals, and even calming, zen-themed layouts. Basically, if your memory feels fresh, earthy, or energetic, green is a winner.

If you’re not sure about the difference between scrapbooking and junk journaling, here’s how we categorize them. Scrapbooks are focused around photos, while junk journals don’t necessarily have pictures. That’s kind of it in a nutshell!

Scrapbooks are great for preserving those favorite memories with family members or making something that feels like a keepsake. Junk journals? They’re perfect for experimenting, using scraps from Valentine’s Day cards, and just having fun with different textures and vibes.

We actually have a whole blog post talking about the difference, with examples of each. Check it out here!

If you haven’t before stumbled across the Slowestuff website, we have an entire section of the blog dedicated to scrapbooking & junk journaling! The crafting group of the blog is made up of monsters, check out their introduction post here!

We have some of the Monster’s layouts included here but we also wanted to feature other creators. We are so inspired by all of these gorgeous scrapbook and junk journal pages!

Mayhem Crafters – Green Junk Journal Layout

We love this layout by our resident werewolf, Ashina, and we love how she used so many different shades of green in her layout. It totally works, and that surprises us more than anyone!

Here is Ashina’s intro layout.

Mayhem Crafters green junk journal layout with layered green papers, stickers, and creative scrapbooking embellishments for memory keeping.

Whether you’re hoarding supplies from American Crafts, channeling your inner Katie Pertiet, or pretending to be Amanda Jones on a budget, green is the easy way to trick people into thinking your page has a color scheme.

So go ahead—embrace the green.

She’s weird, she’s earthy & wild, and way more fun than anyone gives her credit for.
