Do you love the idea of Earth Day but are asking yourself how Earth Day can be celebrated all year long? We do too! This blog post will not only give you great ideas on how you can celebrate Earth Day, but also how you can live in the spirit of Earth day in every season.

This post is designed to give you some great things you can do to celebrate Earth Day all year long, and in every season.
When Is Earth Day?
Earth Day is always the same day every year – April 22nd – but depending on the day of the week that it falls, you may be able to do different things to celebrate Earth Day from year to year.

Crazy to think the first Earth Day event was in 1970. It was led by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson, & marked the beginning of a global movement.
As we approach the 55th anniversary of Earth Day, we know that collective action is vital for a healthy environment. Whether it’s through small changes at home or participating in larger Earth Week events, every effort counts toward taking care of Mother Earth and our sustainable future.

How Earth Day Can Be Celebrated – Springtime

Gardening – in all forms!
Spring is synonymous with growth, so it’s our favorite time to the perfect time to start playing in the dirt and connect with the natural world after a long winter. It’s when things are planted and hope springs eternal!
When we ask ourselves how can Earth Day be celebrated, one of our favorite things to do each spring is starting a vegetable garden or flower garden. You can get seeds to sow directly into the ground, or even get a seed starter kit!
A great way to have fresh herbs all year long is to start a windowsill herb garden. It is super easy and your recipes will taste great!

If you are trying to think of how Earth Day can be celebrated with children, this is also an excellent activity for kids as well! They can have a little seed starter kit with fun seeds to plant and watch grow.
You can plant a garden anywhere, all you need is a pot! Check out our post on everything you need to know to grow breathtaking container gardens!

We always try to incorporate native plants into our landscaping to support local pollinators and conserve water. These small actions can have a big environmental impact while making your yard look amazing! Check out more gardening ideas in our gardening section of the blog!
Park Clean Up/Litter Clean Up

Another great way to celebrate Earth Day in spring is by participating in a local park cleanup. Grab a trash bag, some reusable gloves, and your besties for a meaningful way to reduce plastic pollution and beautify your community.
Many local organizations and Earth Day events also offer opportunities to learn about conservation efforts, renewable energy sources, and ways to reduce your carbon footprint.
Check out the Earth Day Network or your local event calendar for activities near you.
How Earth Day Can Be Celebrated – Summertime

You Pick Flower Farms
Summer’s warm weather makes it ideal for outdoor Earth Day activities.
Visit a local flower farm to enjoy the gorgeous scenery and pick some of your own beautiful bouquets! These are often family run small business farms, and would be an incredible way to celebrate Earth Day in the summer. Check out ones like Little Roots Flower Farm, the Never Ending Flower Farm, or Flower Farm Ut that span from across the country. Do a quick search to find the closest one to you!
Plant Themed Cook Out

Who doesn’t need more veggies in their diet?
Consider hosting a plant-based meal cookout with friends and family. Eating more plant-based meals is a great way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which is great for Earth Day, while introducing your loved ones to delicious, sustainable practices.
Use the Sun!

Take advantage of sunny days to promote renewable energy generation. Its always a smart idea in case the power goes out!
You don’t have to do anything big like install solar panels, you can start small with things like solar-powered gadgets. These chargers or outdoor lights are brilliant for around the house or out camping.
Don’t forget to stay hydrated with reusable water bottles—a small but effective way to cut down on plastic pollution. Plus, everyone has an emotional support water bottle nowadays!
How Earth Day Can Be Celebrated – Autumn

Composting
Fall is a season of transition, making it an excellent time to focus on sustainable practices like composting.
You are going to want to pick up those fallen leaves, so it is a great time to put them to use. Food scraps also can be turned into nutrient-rich compost for your garden, supporting future growth while reducing waste.
We all know that good garden soil rich in organic material is what makes our garden harvest boom. Working on it after the growing season is the best time!
Taking Care of Your Home

You can also use this season to prepare your home for the colder months ahead.
Make smart energy choices by sealing drafts – this will save you money, be good for the planet, and keep your home more comfortable! What’s not to love about that?
Reusable Products
Another earth friendly idea is to start using reusable bags for your grocery store runs. Keep a set in your car at all times so they are there whenever you need them!
How Earth Day Can Be Celebrated – Winter

Winter Activities
Winter is perfect for cozying up indoors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make a difference.
There is plenty to do outside in the cold if you have the gear for it! Hiking, skiing, and snow tubing are always a blast! Being outside and visiting places brings awareness and funds to them.
Educating Yourself
When the weather is cold, it is a great time to do some reading and research. Find the topics that are really interesting to you – it can be anything!
From gardening to fishing, hiking to morel mushroom hunting – use this time to read, research and educate yourself about environmental causes that speak to you. You can even go so far to look up policy changes impacting things like the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, or the Endangered Species Act.
You can read up on organizations that support environmental challenges or subscribing to an educational work from the National Geographic Society. We love the idea of being able to make changes even when you act small, like your own back yard.
Bird Feeding

You may not think of winter as being prime bird feeding time, but to us, this is when it is critical! Many birds overwinter in harsh climates, where food can be scarce. This is when we feel it is the most important time to feed the birds, so this is a great way to celebrate Earth Day in the winter.
You can start with a simple tube feeder with sunflower seeds and it will make a huge difference. We recommend the metal ones with the cage around it to keep out the squirrels. We have lost many a bird feeder (they chew through it) and even more birdseed to learn this lesson!
We also put out suet, especially for our woodpecker friends.
Adding to those, we include peanuts for our blue jays (and squirrels!)
To find all kinds of bird feeding recommendations and tips, we did a post dedicated to mom’s who love to feed birds, but it is perfect for anyone! Check out our post on that here.

No matter the season, there are easy ways to make every day Earth Day. Choosing to ride public transportation, or support local businesses that prioritize sustainability. You can even invest in carbon offset programs. There are ways to honor Earth Day for everyone.
Simple things make a difference! Switch to cold water when doing laundry, use reusable containers instead of single-use plastics, and encourage young people to get involved in climate action or conservation.

How Earth Day Can Be Celebrated
