Are you starting on your blogging journey? It’s overwhelming, isn’t it. We know!
There is a lot to do to get a blog up and running. If you haven’t blogged before, it is super overwhelming. Even if you have blogged before, it is still a lot of work to get everything set up on the front end.
One thing you can do, as you are asking how to develop WordPress theme for your blog – consider buying it. We did, and have had zero regrets! Let us tell you why.
Slowestuff Blogging Favorites
When we decided to dive into blogging, we started from zero. We knew nothing at all about blogging and even less than nothing about setting up a blog. We love to write and just wanted to write! We are not super techie!
If that’s you, first off, we want to say we are proud of you for taking on something new. That’s amazing!
We have a little corner of the blog dedicated to our blogging favorites. Check that out to find out more about all kinds of blogging things – like why Flodesk is our favorite email service, why RankIQ is a game changer for SEO, and how Lasso has saved the day for Amazon links – and more.
What is a Theme for a Blog?
Regardless of your niche (and we know you many not even be clear about what your niche is at this point – also totally fine. This will get more clear as you blog) finding a good theme is key.
Do you like the way Slowestuff looks? That’s because of the theme!
A theme is essentially the unique look provided in the website layout and design framework of your WordPress site. It controls the site’s visual design, including how elements like the home page, posts, and menus are displayed. It is really important because it directly influences the user experience.
Why A Theme Is Important
A well-designed theme isn’t just about looking good.
There is nothing more frustrating if you visit a blog or website, only to discover that it is not easy to navigate. This is especially true if it is not mobile-friendly, since the majority of traffic is via phones.
People who are interested enough to click to your blog will leave quickly if the user experience just results in frustration. Choosing the right theme is key to making sure there is a smooth transition from one web page to the next. This will encourage users to navigate from one web page to the next, which makes them stay on your site longer. That’s the goal!
Plus, a good theme is vital for SEO (search engine optimization), as it helps ensure your site loads quickly, is mobile-friendly, and is easy for search engines to crawl, all of which contribute to higher search rankings. If you want your blog to be successful, you have to be SEO friendly.
Why Buy A Theme?
Creating your own WordPress theme is a good idea for some, but it wasn’t ideal for us. We just wanted to have a blog set up that we would work on. It was confusing enough to configure Slowestuff once the theme was set up, let alone dealing with the complex process of creating a theme.
* REMEMBER – BLOGGING EXPENSES CAN OFTEN BE WRITTEN OFF ON YOUR TAXES! SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS AND CHECK WITH YOUR ACCOUNTANT!!
If you have computer experience, you might be more interested in WordPress theme development, since building your own custom theme gives you complete control over the site’s visual design. But for us, with our zero based knowledge level, even starting with a starter theme or customizing one of the template files was beyond us at the time. The development process is one that we felt better left to the experts.
Besides, once we adjusted all the theme customization, color schemes, and WordPress plugins, then added in our own content, it felt personalized enough to be like our very own theme!
17th Avenue Design Themes
We got our theme from 17th Avenue Designs. The specific design and theme name we use is Ingrid and we LOVE it. It was hard to choose – there are so many amazing ones!
Check out all the designs here to find the perfect one for you.
If you’re not ready to dive into creating your own custom WordPress theme, 17th Avenue Designs offers a range of third-party themes that are easy to install and customize. Then you won’t have to worry about working with template files or writing code—instead, you can focus on crafting content and growing your blog.
If you love the chic, feminine blog vibes of 17th Avenue Designs, but still want to create a truly unique look and feel without the hassle, 17th Avenue also offers a theme builder service, allowing you to get a custom WordPress theme that aligns perfectly with your brand. That way, you can still have your site be customized, all while ensuring optimal performance and user experience. It’s a win-win!
You will see why 17th Avenue Designs is known for its chic, feminine blog themes that are both elegant and functional.
Theme Installation
Once you decide on a theme, the next step is installation. There are two options to installing it. The first is that once you buy the theme from 17th Avenue, you can install it yourself by uploading the zip file to your WordPress site and activating it. 17th Avenue gives a clear, step-by-step guide showing how to do this, and their customer service has been top notch.
However, if you’re not tech-savvy, fear not! You can also pay to have 17th Avenue install it for you. All you have to do is provide them your log in information, and they will even walk you through how to do that!
This is what we did and it was the best $149 we have spent. We are still not super great at back end blog stuff, but we were completely lost about anything like that when we started our blog.
Investing in a high-quality theme from 17th Avenue Designs is absolutely one of the best decisions we made early on in our blogging game. We absolutely fell in love with the designs, and felt they fit the aesthetic we were looking for. Beyond how gorgeous they are, we love how it has been problem free and performs so well. We enthusiastically recommend this company and service!
