The Monsters have been embraced by a junk journaling community on TikTok, and recently a journal layout request to collaborate was received! It was based on prompts from The Art Journal Collaborative, one of which was “poisonous plants.” Perfect for Puk!
(If you don’t know who Puk or the rest of the Monsters are, check out the introductory post here!)
Junk Journal Layout Inspiration
The Monsters have really been inspired to use more stamps in their junk journal layouts based on the very talented and inspiring creators they see on Tiktok. They are trying to get an idea of how to incorporate them into the layouts and how to work with less cardstock. None of the Monsters do minimalist journal layouts!
The Making of Poisonous Plant Junk Journal Layout
Junk Journal Layout with a Story
As explained in the video, this junk journal layout is designed with the idea that you are going to take a walk in the poison garden. You are met at the entrance by the greeter, who leads you to the gate. As you go, she recommends that you stay on the path at all times, regardless of whom you may encounter. Go towards the lantern at the far corner; it will illuminate the exit. If you make it…..

The Poison Garden
There is actually a famous Poison Garden! The Poison Garden at Alnwick Garden, located in Northumberland, England, is a one-of-a-kind botanical collection that features an impressive array of toxic and deadly plants. It was created by the Duchess of Northumberland, Jane Percy, in the late 1990s. (We don’t know about you, our lovely reader, but we imagined this garden was going to be from the 1800s, or some other much less recent date!) The idea for the Poison Garden was born when she wanted to create a garden that would not only entertain visitors but also educate them about the dark side of the plant kingdom. (Puk wonders if that was just a good cover).
It is so dangerous that the Poison Garden is enclosed by these imposing and locked iron gates. Access is restricted, and visitors can only enter the garden as part of guided tours led by knowledgeable guides.
It is home to a wide variety of toxic and poisonous plants like deadly nightshade, hemlock, foxglove and madrake. The most venomous of all plants is said to be the gympie gympie tree or “Australian Stinging Tree.” Being stung by the gympie gympie tree is said to be equivalent of being burned with hot acid and electrocuted at the same time. Yikes!
The Pukwudgie and Poison
Puk is, of course, a Pukwudgie. You are forgiven if the red skin threw you off. That is the result of a prank gone wrong. We will cover that story on another day.
Danger Danger!!
It’s no secret that Puk is not keen on humans, and he loves to play pranks on them. “Prank” makes it sound harmless, but that is not the case. Often times, Pukwudgies, and Puk in particular, can appear fun and harmless but have dangerous or malicious intent. It is not uncommon for Pukwudgies to be vindictive and enjoy causing harm to humans.
Puk is a master gardener and has an amazing garden, which he cultivates for poison to use with his arrows. As good as he is at gardening, he is even a better shot. He covers his arrows with a deadly toxin, which can be used to harm or kill humans who intrude on his territory or provoke him. If the arrow doesn’t kill you, the poison will.
Beware the Pukwudgie!
