Let the Good Times Roll: Mardi Gras Porch Decor Ideas To Copy

Spread the love

New Orleans has some of the best porches in the whole world, and I will die on that hill! There is just something about a front door in the South that is welcoming and warm, and then Mardi Gras season shows up and turns it into a full-blown celebration.

Decorating your porch for Mardi Gras is honestly one of the best ways to pay homage to the festivities, even if you are nowhere near Bourbon Street. All you need is the classic purple, green, and gold, a little sparkle, a fleur de lis somewhere in the mix, and the willingness to embrace the one holiday where “extra” is basically the dress code. Mardi Gras is the celebration where more is more, and nobody is mad about it.

FAQs: Mardi Gras & Mardi Gras Decor

Purple stands for justice, green for faith, and gold for power. For decor, they’re your signature colors, so repeating them across your front door, wreaths, and porch accents is the perfect way to make the theme read instantly.

Start with the front door: Mardi Gras wreaths, a big bow, or a mask accent are the fastest way to get Mardi Gras flair with big impact. Then add bead garland, a porch sign, or a doormat that ties into the color scheme for a finished look.

Use outdoor Command hooks on trim, zip ties on railings, and removable hooks under a header if you have a spot that stays dry. For bead strands, twist-tie them to garland so they hang neatly and do not slide around in wind.

Pick sturdy pieces for the outside layer: wired ribbon, heavier garland, and decor attached with zip ties. Use outdoor-safe hooks, tuck lightweight items behind a focal point, and anchor porch mats and signs. If you’re using feather boas, keep them for a sheltered porch swing or bring them in overnight.

What are the Mardi Gras colors and what do they mean?

What are the easiest Mardi Gras porch decorations to start with?

Start with the front door: Mardi Gras wreaths, a big bow, or a mask accent are the fastest way to get Mardi Gras flair with big impact. Then add bead garland, a porch sign, or a doormat that ties into the color scheme for a finished look.

How can I hang garland and beads outside without damaging siding or trim?

Use outdoor Command hooks on trim, zip ties on railings, and removable hooks under a header if you have a spot that stays dry. For bead strands, twist-tie them to garland so they hang neatly and do not slide around in wind.

How do I keep Mardi Gras porch decor from blowing away or getting ruined by weather?

Pick sturdy pieces for the outside layer: wired ribbon, heavier garland, and decor attached with zip ties. Use outdoor-safe hooks, tuck lightweight items behind a focal point, and anchor porch mats and signs. If you’re using feather boas, keep them for a sheltered porch swing or bring them in overnight.

How do you decorate a porch for Mardi Gras?

Front porch decorated for Mardi Gras with bold purple, green, and gold decor and layered front door styling.
Can you imagine walking up to this porch? A dream!
  • Start with the three classics and commit. Purple, green, and gold are your Mardi Gras color scheme, so keep those as the backbone, then use one accent shade only if you want extra vibrant color.
  • Pick one piece that sets the tone immediately. A wreath, a streamer frame, or bold hanging decor is the perfect way to make the whole entry feel intentional.
  • If you love a dramatic look, choose vibrant purple as the “main” shade and let green and gold support it through beads, ribbons, and ornaments.
  • Normally we say to add themed icons sparingly so it looks styled, not cluttered. Mardi Gras is not one of the holidays that we recommend paring it down. Excess is the point! Generally, if you have one or two Mardi Gras masks & fleur de lis combined with the colors of the season, you will be right on track.
  • We still love twinkle lights, so don’t forget about nighttime ambiance. Weave light ropes behind bead strands or inside planters for that extra razzle dazzle at night. Besides, the streets are lively at night during Mardi Gras!
  • On benches or swings, add texture that feels playful. Beads, a throw, and even feather boas work great on a covered porch because they stay fluffy and fun.
  • You already know that I am obsessed with lanterns, and they really are perfect for Mardi Gras since they are very prevalent in New Orleans. They are great for both height, texture and warmth. A pillar candle (battery is easiest) makes the whole porch feel cozy even when the decor is loud.

Do that, and your front porch will be Mardi Gras ready!

What Mardi Gras porch themes can you copy?

Already Amazing!

Leveled up with that door framing!
Over-the-top Mardi Gras porch decor with umbrella accents and bold purple, green, and gold details.
Ok WOW!

We love watching Katy’s Mardi Gras porch style evolve year after year.

This first porch is like the gateway drug to going full Mardi Gras. It starts sweet and simple with that single bead strand across the top, and it already works because the color story is clear. You’ve got the purple, green, and gold right up front, plus that little fleur de lis detail that instantly says New Orleans. And the wreath? The wreath is doing the most in the best way. It’s proof you do not need to cover every inch of your porch to get Mardi Gras flair. Sometimes one strong focal point on the front door is the whole vibe.

Then Katy was like, “Okay, cute, but we need more.” This version is where you can really see the upgrade. The top of the doorway gets thicker and bolder, like a real statement piece, and then she drops that shiny fringe down the sides so the door is framed like it’s walking a red carpet. It’s dramatic, it’s festive, it’s giving “the parade is coming, better act right.” And the best part is it’s still built from classic Mardi Gras ingredients: beads, sparkle, and those signature colors repeating in a way that feels intentional.

And then we get to the most recent porch, which is begging to go viral. This is Katy in her final form.

The giant bow up top is basically screaming “Let the good times roll,” the umbrellas are pure Mardi Gras joy, and the bead streamers make the whole porch feel like it’s already in party mode. This is the style where you stop trying to be subtle and just commit.

Mardi Gras is not the holiday for minimalism. This is the season where you can be over the top and it is celebrated. If you’ve ever worried your porch decor might be “too much,” Mardi Gras is the time to stop that thought mid-sentence and add more beads.

Amazing Mardi Gras Flair

Even her “level 1” front door decor for Mardi Gras is amazing! The iconic bead swag around the frame, the two bead trees, and the gorgeous wreath all tied together with the chevron door mat and the little rockers is absolutely perfect for Mardi Gras. A lot of impact without too much work. We love that!

Level 2

Level 2 Mardi Gras front door decor with a fuller topper, streamers, and stronger purple, green, and gold framing.
Incredible Upgrade in Mardi Gras Decorations

You see exactly what we mean when we say this is leveled up. Look at the difference in the door framing! From a single oversized strand of beads to a whole topper filled with ornament balls in the colors of Mardi Gras. Added to that some streamers in gold, green and purple, and this is what we like to see!

Level 3

Level 3 Mardi Gras front door decor with bead framing, lanterns, umbrellas, and a large statement bow.
TikTok make this one viral! Wow!

Ok girlie, we see you Katy! This takes it to a whole – nother – level! If you go check out Katy’s Instagram page, she shows you the frame she built that sits around her door. So genius! This is how she does these elaborate and simply gorgeous door frames.

If you have ever been to Mardi Gras in New Orleans (or anywhere, for that matter) you probably came home with more beads than you knew what to do with. Well, Katy is giving you the perfect idea on how to use them. This bead framing is genius!

Adding to it some paper lanterns in the perfect Mardi Gras shades, plus iconic umbrellas??? Soooo New Orleans coded, and Mardi Gras coded. Topped all off with a ginormous bow, and this is absolutely jaw dropping.

What Are Ideas To Decorate A Porch Bench or Swing?

Katy doesn’t stop at her incredible Mardi Gras front door decorations, she extends it to the rest of her porch too. This includes some perfectly themed porch bench or porch swing decorations.

Cozy & Kitchy, perfect for Mardi Gras!

We canNOT get over her awesome porch puppy in the green. OMG. She has this whole porch swing set up in Mardi Gras cozy colors, but that puppy sent us. Love it so much!

Elegant and still cozy!

You never know what type of weather you will have when Mardi Gras season is here. In New Orleans, it can be warm enough for shorts, or it can be cool and rainy. This set up is perfect to hang out on the porch swing to watch the parades go by. Lots of cushions to curl up in, and a blanket in case it gets a bit chilly.

A Touch Of Neutral – But Still Very Mardi Gras

Adding in touches of neutrals to very colorful decorations, like the signature Mardi Gras colors, is always a great idea. It sets the colors off even more, and gives good focal points.

This doormat is a perfect example. Muted color tones go great with the bright colors of the season, and the saying is absolutely perfectly Mardi Gras spirit!

Where Can I Find Some Mardi Gras Porch Decor Ideas To Inspire My Decorating?

If you’re wondering where to find Mardi Gras porch decor ideas that feel fun, festive, and actually doable, you’re looking at them. This post is basically a mini “copy this porch” playbook, starring Katy from The Porch Club and her three levels of front door decor. Same classic Mardi Gras colors, totally different energy every time.

Level 1: Classic & Easy is your “I want Mardi Gras curb appeal without turning this into a craft project that takes three weekends.” You get the bead framing, a strong wreath moment, and those extra touches that make the whole entry feel pulled together. Simple, cute, and instantly recognizable as Mardi Gras.

Level 2: Bold Door Framing is where the porch starts acting like it has plans. The door topper gets fuller, the colors get louder (in the best way), and the streamers make it feel like the party is already happening at your front door. This is the sweet spot if you want “wow” without going full parade float.

Level 3: Over-the-Top Iconic is Katy in her “let’s make the internet scream” era. Bead framing for days, lanterns, umbrellas, and that giant bow that basically announces: laissez les bon temps rouler. This is the version you copy when you’re not trying to be subtle and honestly, why would you be during Mardi Gras?

And do not skip the porch swing ideas either. That’s where the decor turns into a whole vibe you can actually sit in. Piled-up pillows in purple, green, and gold plus a cozy throw means you’re ready for whatever Mardi Gras weather decides to do that day.

If you’re inspired by these looks but want to shop the vibe fast, you can check out my Mardi Gras Essentials storefront. It’s the easiest way to grab the building blocks like beads, ribbon, masks, lanterns, garland, and porch accents so you can mix, match, and recreate your favorite level.
